Our Programs
At the Reef Life Foundation, we are dedicated to using holistic approaches to address the problems in our marine environment. We recognize that a single environmental problem will have numerous sources. We work to find the mirror image: a single solution that addresses many sources of environmental harm. Our programs are designed to overlap with each other for the benefit of all.
Reef Restoration
Tropical and cold water reefs can no longer replenish themselves fast enough in the face of threats like overfishing, pollution, climate change, and more. By giving nature the tools to heal herself, we improve health and sustainability of tropical and cold water reefs and marine ecosystems. We collaborate with local communities to meet their needs and honor their biocultural values. Together, we celebrate successful reef restoration milestones.
Education
It's said that people protect what they love. With that in mind, we chose to help foster the UN Ocean Decade Goal of increasing Ocean Literacy. Our desired outcome is to increased awareness and understanding of ocean ecosystems and conservation. We are developing programming to be deployed at all our reef sites, including: educational activities and materials for local schools, unique internships for teenagers interested in marine biology, and citizen scientist opportunities.
